25/03 - Château Pesquié Wine Dinner
A trip to the foothills of Mont Ventoux for our next wine dinner on Tuesday 25th March.
Pesquié is one of Ventoux's benchmark estates, consistently turning out wines that for many years were great values. Now, the Chaudière family is making even greater strides in their pursuit of quality. The Château Pesquié wines are certified organic, while the Le Paradou line of Vin de France wines are not. As in the rest of the Rhône, the 2021 vintage is easily eclipsed by the 2020 and 2022 vintages, but it shouldn't be discounted entirely.
As always, Julien will cook a four course menu to enjoy with the wines.

Château Pesquié – Ventoux Terrasses Blanc 2022
An equal-parts blend of Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Viognier, all made in stainless steel, the 2022 Ventoux Terrasses Blanc features straightforward, pleasing aromas of lime and tangerine. It's medium to full-bodied, zesty and clean, with an appealing bit of plumpness and some charming peach notes on the finish. Drink it young.

Château Pesquié – Ventoux Terrasses Rose 2022
Typically, a blend of 50% Cinsault, 40% Grenache and 10% Syrah, the 2022 Ventoux Rose Terrasses is a pale-hued effort, its focus firmly on high-altitude freshness. It hints at cherries and strawberries but offers more stone fruit and citrus, all in a balanced, medium-bodied package that lingers easily on the finish.

Lamb Daube Comtadine
Château Pesquié Ventoux Quintessence Rouge 2021
The 2021 Ventoux Quintessence suffers in comparison with the vintages on either side of it. Scents of roasted meat, warm asphalt and black olive mark the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is sturdy and tannic but without the genuine depth of fruit behind it to age a long time. Drink it with something that will help counteract the tannins.

Saffron Poached Pear & Lemon Crème Fraîche
Château Pesquié Ventoux Quintessence Blanc 2022
An 80-20 blend of Roussanne and Clairette, the 2022 Ventoux Quintessence Blanc was bottled in May 2023 after aging in a mix of concrete and demi-muids. There's a hint of sweet corn on the nose, then more appealing notes of white peach and lime zest. In the mouth, the wine is medium to full-bodied, plump and welcoming, but it's still focused and long on the finish.
